SCOLIOSIS PATIENT EXPERIENCE WITH DATA-DRIVEN EXERCISE THERAPY. IS IT WORTH IT?

In traditional exercise therapy, therapists rely on qualitative descriptions of exercises and patient progress. While helpful, these observations can be subjective and difficult to measure with precision.

One therapist's improvement may look different from another’s. A patient’s self-reported pain level can fluctuate based on mood, memory, and expectations. Medical staff are usually trained to see all those nuances of pain identification well. However, without measurable data, it is nearly impossible to track micro-changes and identify data or adjust the accuracy of therapy.

1. WHEN A MINOR ISSUE BECOMES A MAJOR LIMITATION

Musculoskeletal health issues, such as back pain, shoulder pain, hip pain, and knee pain, or in my case, scoliosis are among the most common physical health issues affecting individuals of all ages. Their impact goes far beyond physical discomfort. These conditions influence daily activities, work productivity, and overall quality of life - turning what begins as a minor issue into a major limitation, even for individuals previously considered healthy (without disability).

I have seen it countless times: People in pain visit their GP or head straight to some physiotherapy practice, hoping for a quick fix. I understand the desire, but there is no such magic pill or fast-working advice. Long-term improvement requires lifestyle adjustment, time, effort, and a consistent exercise that supports your overall well-being.

True treatment requires consistency, commitment, and patience. It means understanding that you have to change how you

→ breathe,

→ sit,

→ walk,

→ move, and even

→ pick things up from the floor,

-maintaining momentum of steady, functional improvement.

2. TRADITIONAL PHYSICAL THERAPY IS FUNDAMENTAL

Exercise therapy has been a crucial pillar of my life since I was a kid. It was my earliest training ground to my strong work ethic, discipline, time efficiency, and planning. You wouldn't believe how many times, just when I was about to negotiate a bit of freedom, I'd hear the same question echo through the house: “No, no, either…” Have you exercised yet?”

Looking back, that routine built more than muscle. It built a strong foundation - one that later became essential in managing musculoskeletal complaints later in adulthood, especially on the days when the pain feels like taking over.

And yes, I am that person who gets up to exercise when pain keeps me awake at night. While the world sleeps, I am stretching, moving, breaking through it. Sounds a little wild, I know. I tell you what I learned: when your body demands attention, you learn to answer it- even at 3 a.m.

Crazy. Right?

No, for me not. For me, it is persistence, resilience in motion.

3. LIFE-LONG EXPERIENCE; SHOULD I CALL MYSELF AN EXPERT?

Archiv: Susanne vd Munt

Holding a Diploma in higher nursing, having 1st class practice experience, living with severe scoliosis, and managing challenging health conditions consequences included: tiredness, fibromyalgia, fatigue, chronic muscoskeletal pain, I consider myself an expert in managing pain. I am still being optimistic type of Soul, and when you meet me, you wouldn't probably guess what's going on with me, unless I tell you. I am friendly, but professional.

Let me tell you professionally that well-chosen and tailor-made physical therapy is a cornerstone of a non-invasive and drug-free approach to managing pain. Your goal should be:

→ to alleviate pain,

→ improve mobility function, and

→ enhance our overall well-being.

I also know that many people don’t get it right in the first instance. Sometimes, it is simply trial and error. Choosing what is right and wrong for your body constitution and active lifestyle takes some time and patience. And that is perfectly okay.

→ You are investing your time and resources into your well-being.

→ You are learning how to cultivate your body that serves you, and supports your active being, the whole life, literally.

It is a learning process with a reward at the end, and most of the time through the process too.

Physical therapy is the foundation of my movement. After years of training and optimizing a variety of exercises, I wanted to elaborate on the whole process of my physical therapy. I was looking for an evidence-based physical treatment that would show me real data and offer me an optimized exercise solution. Have I found it?

4. TRADITIONAL PHYSICAL THERAPY VS DATA-DRIVEN PHYSICAL THERAPY

DAVID Health Solution Center, Archiv: Susanne vd Munt

Compare traditional therapy to data‑driven physical therapy, where progress is no longer a matter of guesswork. Instead of relying solely on what a patient feels or what a therapist sees, therapists use objective metrics; range‑of‑motion measurements, muscle activation data, movement symmetry, endurance scores, and digital posture analysis. Isn't that amazing? Empowering?

Data-driven tools reveal what the human eye can’t: subtle compensations, early signs of overload, or improvements too small to detect manually. After a lifetime of training and optimizing a variety of exercises, I wanted to add value to my physical therapy. What I found, amazes me. The difference is striking. Traditional therapy offers guidance.

Data‑driven therapy offers clarity.

And clarity is what transforms treatment from “hoping it works” into “knowing it works.”

5. FROM GUESSWORK TO PRECISION

I finally found it in an evidence-based treatment method called DAVID HEALTH Solution, developed in Finland in the 1980s.

Since then, their data-driven concept in physical therapy has run miles and evolved into a highly effective, empowering, and scientifically grounded practice. My needs are far more complex than a regular patient with occasional back pain. I also exercise more than a regular person who wants to gain muscles or keep the body active after a certain age. I wanted to see a progression. I needed precision, structure, and measurable progress.

What we want, the Universe delivers.

6. WHAT IS ACTUALLY DAVID HEALTH SOLUTION?

As soon as this opportunity appeared on my radar, I did some research, and I knew that it can just make my life better. Nowadays, I know that DAVID Health Solution aligns perfectly with the principles of evidence-based exercise therapy.

The whole concept, including exercise equipment was designed by a team of engineers and exercise specialists with years of experience in rehabilitation technology. Since its inception in the 1980s, DAVID has focused on the development and production of advanced exercise equipment tailored for a variety of healthcare environments. Over the years, DAVID has expanded its reach to different continents, establishing a robust global presence. Continue reading here..

What caught my attention was that DAVID equipment offers biomechanically optimized exercise solutions for specific musculoskeletal conditions. According to their statement, you can find it in hospitals, rehabilitation centers, chiropractic and geriatric departments, and military bases, where it plays a crucial role in rehabilitating injured soldiers and maintaining their physical readiness. When I started with this evidence-based therapy, I didn’t even know about the variety of uses that I know now.

I instantly knew that this would elevate my physical therapy with evidence-based neuromuscular training.

6. POWER OF DETERMINATION

Power of determination

I put all my plans on the hold, I packed my bags, and I relocated myself to another city with one mission: to reclaim my body. Three times a week I committed myself fully to the David Health rehabilitation center, working under the quidance of a top physiotherapist with 30 years of experience.

For three months, my world I narrowed to a simple rhythm - show up, breathe, move, repeat. Every session was a meticulous recalibration of my physical health and posture.

What made a difference was precision.

My physiotherapist delivered truly personalized and targeted treatment approach supported by real-time data: speed, range of motion, repetition, count, load - nothing was left to guesswork. We checked it after each exercise. The whole process was tailor-made to my health conditions. And to be real: I wasn't progressing as fast as other clients with healthier bodies, and my loads were far lighter than others, but improvement was there. Imagine what kind of improvement you can reach with your body..Could you?

Throughout this process, I learned more than I expected. With my medical experience and real experience with managing chronic pain I couldn't help myself, but I feel drawn to this concept. It was not just a therapy; it was an empowerment.

7. NEWLY GAINED ENDURANCE

VIEW AT ALPS MOUNTAIN'S

Soon after, I tested my newly gained physical endurance - walking through Italian Dolomites and tackling various Alpine routes with strengths I hadn’t felt for years! I am not saying that I was not tired, and I was not a mountain chamois either, but a change in my body strength was tangible. Standing on the Alpine meadows, and observing high peaks and endless sky, I realised: I couldn’t wish for more!

Will I repeat this personalized and targeted treatment approach that allows me to move and enjoy a pain-reduced lifestyle even if only for a precious stretch of time? Yes!

Do I see a value in time invested, money spent, and opportunities paused in order to put my health first?

Without doubt!

“In the end, what matters most isn’t just the strength I gained, but the life it allowed me to reclaim. “

8. RESILIENCE IN ACTION

I was reminded once more in my life: resilience isn’t loud; it’s built quietly, repetition after repetition, choice after choice.

And so I move forward with a simple truth: when you invest in your health, you invest in your freedom. Every hour, every euro, and every moment of patience becomes a doorway back into the life you want to live.

This journey isn’t finished. It’s evolving—and so am I. If there is a path that keeps me moving, breathing, and living with less pain and more possibility, I will take it again and again.

If there is something that you can learn from someone whose life path is harder than yours, then learn it!

Because the view from the top—the one you earn with your own effort, is always worth it.

FOUNDER-DISABILITY & INCLUSION

HEALTHCARE WRITER

My core belief — “Disability Is Diversity” — challenges outdated assumptions about strength and ability.

Disabled people are not symbols of limitation that society needs to "somehow" accommodate.

We are masters of adaptation, innovation, and resilience.

We don't break up at the first inconvenience.

When society finally comprehends this, a stronger, braver, more compassionate society can be built.

This project is shaped by lived experience and sustained by your support. Every book purchased and service booked contributes to a mission led by a coach living with physical disability. Your support helps amplify a message built from resilience, compassion, and shared healing.

Thank you.

My mission is simple:

To shift the global mindset from seeing disability as a deficit to recognizing it as a source of innovation, leadership, and human evolution.
